Tutors’ Alliance Ltd. was established as a limited company in 2009 by Valerie Kemp LLB (Hons.). With a First Class Honours degree in Law, Valerie has also been a languages tutor for over three years and is very passionate about tutoring pupils of all ages. This is something which she continues to do in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her pupils range in age from 5 - 60+ and she currently tutors French, Latin and English from primary to advanced levels.
Whilst working as a tutor, Valerie found that there was a problem for tutors who were self-employed. It was very difficult to prove to potential pupils that they were experienced, had a Disclosure Scotland check and had great references without engaging in a process which was time-consuming both for the tutor and the pupil. She also found that she wanted to be a member of a professional association that she could use to show her credentials as a tutor when advertising for work. After extensive searching on the internet, she found there was nothing out there.
In addition, Valerie became increasingly concerned about the quality of tuition that was being provided in some areas. She heard a number of horror stories and decided to do something about it.
Since the birth of Tutors' Alliance, we have grown from strength to strength. Tutors' Alliance won the Scottish Institute for Enterprise Bootcamp:09 competition and achieved coverage in the national educational press.
Tutors' Alliance now has a growing membership base of tutors across the UK and is working with a number of organisations within the industry.
In February 2010, Tutors' Alliance launched tutor workshops, the first of their kind. Training tutors ensures that the quality of Tutors' Alliance members' tuition in second to none.
However, with one eye to the future, Valerie has plans to grow Tutors’ Alliance to ensure it remains the primary reference point for information on tuition in the UK.
Valerie has joined forces with Emma Porteous BA (Hons.), who has extensive experience in marketing, to bring Tutors' Alliance to as wide an audience as possible. Tutors' Alliance has big but achievable ambitions.
