Tutors’ Alliance has arranged for insurance to be provided to members by Hiscox insurance. For Basic members, we offer Public Liability Insurance and for Professional members, we offer both Public Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
Basic Members
As a tutor or teacher, you have a duty of care to conduct your activities so as to avoid injury to third parties or damage to third party property. If you breach this duty and your actions or lack of actions result(s) in injury or damage, this could constitute negligence and any injured party may claim damages. Public Liability Insurance provides cover in this respect. As part of their membership, Basic Members have Public Liability Insurance up to the value of £5,000,000 for any one claim.
Professional Members
As part of their membership, Professional Members have Public Liability Insurance (see above) and Professional Indemnity Insurance up to the value of £250,000 for any one claim. Professional Indemnity Insurance protects a person acting in their professional capacity against claims that might be made alleging that loss has resulted from their negligent actions or advice. A breach of Professional Duty can occur from poor coaching or advice, lack of supervision or failure to enforce rules and regulations.
Both Public Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance cover are conditional on the tutor being accepted by the insurers, Hiscox Insurance. Further details of the scheme will be provided in the Welcome Pack sent to all Tutors’ Alliance members. Please note that cover is only provided to tutors who have had their membership applications accepted. |
