What is it?

Professional membership is designed for self-employed tutors who want to show their professionalism through membership of a nationwide professional association for tutors.  It is ideal for those who run a successful private tuition business and earn their primary source of income from tuition.

What does it include?

Tutors’ Alliance Professional Membership is valid for a year and includes:

  • A Tutor Check
  • An Enhanced CRB / Disclosure Scotland disclosure
  • A 20-page Guide to Tutoring covering all the essential information tutors need to know from where to find ideas for materials and resources to how to register as self-employed
  • Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance provided by Hiscox Insurance
  • Key documents pack containing sample terms and conditions, a sample financial spreadsheet and a variety of other essential private tuition documents
  • One-to-one telephone or Skype consultation with our Managing Director, Valerie Kemp who will give you a business health-check and generate ideas about how you can grow your private tuition business
  • On-going business support via our telephone advice line and e-mail service
  • Preferential access to our Marketing Service, Tutors' Alliance Connect, which puts pupils in touch with tutors
  • Tutors’ Alliance magazine, published quarterly.

We are constantly adding to the range of services we offer our tutors to meet their needs.

How much does it cost?

Professional Membership is available through two payment methods, one-off payment or subscription.

The one-off annual payment price is £329. The subscription price is an initial payment of £49 followed by eleven monthly charges of £30, paid by Direct Debit. Paying the one-off charge saves tutors £50 on the subscription price.

Given that most full-time tutors earn at least £30 per session, Professional membership offers excellent value for money. It works out at the equivalent of one session’s earnings per month. We have found that one of the services Tutors' Alliance members find the most beneficial is our referrals service, Tutors' Alliance Connect. Because Tutors’ Alliance Professional Membership includes preferential access to Tutors' Alliance Connect, Tutors’ Alliance members are spending less on their marketing budgets as pupils are being referred to them through Tutors’ Alliance.

Members of Tutors’ Alliance have reported that they are now charging between £5 and £10 per hour extra because pupils are willing to pay more for tutors who have been professionally vetted, have an Enhanced Disclosure and public liability and professional indemnity insurance; and belong to a membership association for private tutors. Tutors' Alliance Professional Membership pays for itself very quickly.

In addition, the business advice Tutors’ Alliance can give our Professional Members can help you generate more income from your own private tuition business. The membership fee is an investment for the future success of your business.

Can I get this elsewhere?

Tutors’ Alliance is the only organisation in the UK offering the above services.

How do I apply?

How long does the process take?

Tutors’ Alliance is dedicated to ensuring that our application process is thorough and rigorous. We must wait until we receive an Enhanced Disclosure certificate from the CRB/Disclosure Scotland before we complete the application process. However, our aim is to send the Welcome Pack to the tutor within 28 days of receiving the initial application.

I have a question. Who can I contact?
